LITERACY

Reading programmes are humming along nicely and we’re beginning to notice some great improvement in the children’s decoding and comprehension skills. 

Most of the Year 4 classes are currently looking at letter writing and procedural writing.

NUMERACY

We are in the last week of our focus on addition and subtraction.   We are moving onto Measurement for the remainder of the term.

FITNESS

We are currently doing Jump Jam for fitness and the children are loving it.  This Friday the Year 4 team is participating in ‘Heart Jam’ which is a nationwide fundraiser for children with heart conditions.  All of the Year 4 children will be doing Jump Jam non-stop for 30 minutes and bringing a gold coin donation.  The children have learnt a special routine that was choreographed especially for this event.

TOPIC

This term our topic is SUPERHEROES – people in our community who help us.  We have been looking predominantly at Fire-fighters, Dentists and Nutritionists.  The children are showing great enthusiasm in their learning and have learnt lots of things to help them keep safe and healthy.  We have had a Fireman visit us and bring his clothing, equipment, etc and the children were able to ask some great questions.  We have also had a Dentist and Dental Nurse visit some of the classes.   

OTHER

Room 1 has a student teacher (Mr Wilson) in their class for 8 weeks.  

The children all loved participating in Skoolstars and watching themselves on the DVD afterwards.  It was a great time for some of the children to get creative with their dance moves and we even got to see some children who are normally very shy, shine and blossom.
