Year 2

Term 2, 2010

We have been busy with our Forces unit for the past few weeks. The children are looking forward to an exciting time over the next 2 weeks making an airborne object as a part of their homework and preparing for a 1 minute talk about how their own toy moves. They are also working on developing their own marble runs using material from the classroom. They will need to think about how the marble will move and how it can be slowed down or stopped.

Last Thursday Mark Brown from the Waikato Balloon Company brought his hot air balloon to school for the children to see. Most children had the opportunity to have a tethered ride. Great excitement was had by all including the teachers who had never been for a balloon ride. The children have all written thank you letters to Mark describing their experience.

The Junior disco is a hot topic at present with the children discussing what they might wear! This will be held in the hall at lunchtime tomorrow.

The children have been working with large balls for PE and now will focus on skipping for Jump Rope at the end of term.

We will also be looking at relationships through the Life Education lessons over the last 3 weeks of term.

The mathematics programme continues daily with numeracy and for the next 3 weeks we will be learning to make sequential patterns for our Algebra topic.

Assessment is coming to an end and the teachers are writing reports to be discussed at Parent interviews at the end of June.

Thank-you from the Year 2 Team.

Nature Tables
Year 2 children have been watching their classroom 'Nature Tables' closely.

A nature table shares insights into life cycles, how things survive and also gives children a hands-on opportunity with nature.
