Year 0 - 1
Term 2, 2010
Room 15a, with Jenny and
Val has already reached the magic number 20 and some of the children who have settled
into learning and school quickly will be moved into already established Year 1
classes in the next couple of weeks, to make room for new children.
We are moving into skipping
skills in our PE skills sessions, every Thursday afternoon, and hopefully Jen
from Project Energize will come and take each class for some learning sessions
focused on skipping.
The children have started
exploring magnets and magnetic properties, with lots of interesting classroom
discussions and experiments.
Room 15 has a 3rd year
student teacher working alongside Christy. Her name is Amy Pickerill and she is
working into taking full control of the class, with Christy’s guidance, for a
few weeks.
The classes are starting
to take full advantage of the COWs, with children learning computer skills related
to maths and literacy.
Children are working on
learning number knowledge and strategies for solving number problems at the
moment. Jenny has been working hard to provide ICT maths resources for all
classes and the children are now fully involved in their ‘number of the week’
work. Maths homework and skills practice is also evident in all classes.
National Standard progress
reports are on everyone’s minds at the
moment, with the middle of the year looming, and mid- year interviews.
Children who have birthdays from mid September through to the end of the school
year will receive progress reports mid- year. These will look at your child’s
progress towards meeting their National Standard age goals (after one year of
school) They will also give you ideas how to support your child’s learning at
home. All children will receive 2 reports this year, but some may not be at
this mid -year point.
Another great month for
the Year 1 team!!!
Thank-you
